Daughter of Dee Ann Johnson (née McAllister) and Keith Franklin Johnson, and sister of Carolyn Ann Johnson
Born in Long Beach, California on August 29, 1991 and raised in Long Beach, Michelle grew up surrounded by her close family. She attended the California Academy of Math and Science and was a competitive rower with Long Beach Junior Crew. For college, Michelle wanted to explore living on the east coast - thanks to frequent family trips to New York to visit relatives - and attend Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut as part of the Class of 2013 where she was also a member of Trinity Women's Rowing and Kappa Kappa Gamma
In 2013, Michelle moved to Washington, D.C. where she worked in advocacy and consulting at American Continental Group
Son of Elizabeth (née Vann) and Michael Ray McDuffie, and brother of John Ames McDuffie
Born in Raleigh, North Carolina on March 18, 1991 and raised in Wake Forest, North Carolina, his family has nearly two-dozen generations of family roots in the state. Vann attended Wakefield High School outside of Raleigh where he competed in basketball, football, and lacrosse, and cheered for UNC sports. For college, Vann attended the Appalachian State University in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina as part of the Class of 2013 where he was also a member of Pi Kappa Alpha
In 2014, Vann moved to Washington, D.C. in 2013, beginning his career in digital marketing with Wholecrowd
After college, both Michelle and Vann moved to Washington, D.C. to begin their careers. Vann's boutique digital marketing company leased space from the large lobbying firm with which Michelle was employed. They developed a work friendship based on crosswords, small talk during lunches, and a love for second breakfasts.
After spending two years as work friends and kickball teammates, a mutual best friend decided to play cupid. He suggested that Vann ask Michelle out on a date. Three years later, he asked Michelle out to dinner at Old Ebbott Grill, introduced her to shrimp and grits, and moved to California in 2016 to confirm if she was the one .
After nearly eight years on the east coast, Michelle planned her move back to California to be close to family and joined a technology startup. She ended up coming home with more than just a "van" packed full of her belongings...
One date turned into a few more while Michelle was planning to pack up and move her life back to Long Beach, CA. To ensure Vann didn't make a mistake, he decided to take a chance and move to California to find out if Michelle was "The One."
Testing their relationship in Southern California turned out to be better than they ever expected. Their personal drive, adaptability, shared interests, and lively spirits have helped the couple thrive; and, most importantly, they have had many opportunities to see and do new things together.
The couple's sense of adventure and their love of travel has allowed them to show each other a number of places - and will bring them to many more new places in the future - including Washington, D.C., Southern California hotspots such as Lake Tahoe, Big Bear Lake, Malibu, and San Diego; a tour of the South through places like the Blue Ridge Mountains in North Carolina, New Orleans, Charlotte, Savannah, and Charleston; as well as international travel to Mexico, Iceland, Scotland, England, and France.
Michelle and Vann have developed the most special bond of companionship through these travels and experiences.
This is a very special place to the couple. They share a love for the great outdoors and the country life.
Eureka, Montana forever secured a place in the hearts of the couple when Vann proposed to Michelle at his favorite spot overlooking Tobacco River on August 23, 2019.
